This was a piece of self promotion I chose to extend my reputation as a portraitist. It was only my second oil painting. I studied Vermeer for this-right down to the frame.
After I had started, I noticed that whenever I would step back, his eyes would follow me around the room. The angle of the eyes seemed to move. It was totally unintentional but something I love.
